    Abstract
In 4th-century BC Greece, a group of wandering scholars, the Sophists, were dedicated to teaching young men the art of persuasion. The Sophists attracted criticism from fellow philosophers for monetising their teaching, while others provided instruction without remuneration. Furthermore, they were accused of teaching how to distort or manipulate the truth to win an argument.
