Presents the experience of a group of Argentine psychoanalysts who designed and put into practice a project for empirical research in psychoanalysis. Here the authors wish to discuss the obstacles, questioning and attempted solutions applied by the participants to put it into practice. The authors include a summarized report of the project "On psychic change," to make the steps necessary for its application understandable. The authors feel that it is important to comment on the vicissitudes faced by the study participants in choosing the therapists and the types of patients appropriate for the sample, the form of inclusion of written consent for participation in the study, the recording of the sessions and the incidence of the inclusion in the questionnaire. The study covered 6 processes of psychoanalytic treatment over 2 yrs. This project was presented to, and approved by, the Research Advisory Board of the International Psychoanalytic Association.es_ES
